Behind the scenes

Another person helping my artistic endeavor is Jeanne Hesler. She spends a lot of time keeping the web site up to date. She is always working to make it more user friendly and easy for you to see our new sculptures. She also keeps tabs on all those who are interested in seeing new sculptures and visisting us at upcoming shows. She is the one who sends out our emails with notices that keep you up to date on our activities.

Making the sculpture

Part of making a good sculpture is having the bronze chased, cleaned up, removing pits, bumps, and correcting flaws in the bronze that are the result of the casting process. I have one of the best doing the chasing for me. He is Jefferson Hammell. He lives in Prescott AZ. It takes many hands to make a good sculpture and Jefferson has a couple of those.

New bronze

We just got back from a trip up to Prescott. We got 4 new bronzes from the foundry. I will be putting them together during the next couple of weeks. The picture is of John Skurja, owner of the foundry. He is patinaing, coloring, one of the new pieces. It takes both heat and chemicals to turn the bronze to various colors. More heat a different color. More chemical a different color. Mixing the heat and the chemicals is an art all by itself. John is a master of this art.

We just spent the afternoon in Mesa, AZ attending an Indian Pow Wow. There was great color, energy and spirit. I got many great pictures to use in new sculptures.

I just finished the wax I have been working on for some time. It is sometimes hard to see all the details while the piece is still in the wax but this will give you a good idea of how the piece will look when finished. If you are interested contact me.

We just got back from a trip to Northern California to pick up some more stone. I get serpentine from a river up there. It has been shaped by the water for thousands of years. Some are very unusual and will make great sculptures.
